Who We Are

The Center for Reproductive Psychology is staffed by Martha O. Diamond, Ph.D.David J. Diamond, Ph.D., and Theresa Gagos, Ph.D. to provide a wide range of psychological counseling and supportive services including individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and support, couples therapy and counseling, and family therapy.

Our experiences, research and practices have led us to write several books about reproductive trauma, including Unsung Lullabies, Understanding and Coping with Infertility, (St Martin’s Press, 2005).

Martha Diamond, PhD

Martha O. Diamond, Ph.D.

received her doctorate from the University of Michigan after completing her undergraduate education at Radcliffe College and Stanford University.

Dr. Diamond is a co-founder and director of the Center for Reproductive Psychology in San Diego, California.  She is co-author of Unsung Lullabies: Understanding and Coping with Infertility and  Reproductive Trauma:  Psychotherapy with Infertility and Pregnancy Loss Clients.

Dr. Diamond has presented nationally and internationally on the psychology of the reproductive process. She was an adjunct faculty member of the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, and also served on the clinical faculty of the. University of Michigan’s Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Diamond has over forty years experience in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and couples and is interested in the impact of reproductive trauma on an individual’s identity as well as on the couple’s relationship.  She has particular expertise in working with people who have experienced birth traumas such as prematurity and perinatal loss. 

David J. Diamond, Ph.D.

received his doctorate from the University of Michigan after completing his undergraduate education at Yale University.

Dr. Diamond is a co-founder and director of the Center for Reproductive Psychology, and co–author of Unsung Lullabies: Understanding and Coping with Infertility.

A psychoanalyst as well as a child and adult psychologist, Dr. Diamond was a core faculty member of the California school of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Diego, California and has over forty years of clinical experience.  He has presented nationally and internationally on the psychology of the reproductive process.

Dr. Diamond was the founder and leader of the Reproductive Trauma Study Group at CSPP and is interested in the impact of reproductive traumas on adult development, parental identity and family relationships.

Theresa Gagos, Ph.D.

received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.  

She specializes in working with clients who have experienced reproductive challenges and trauma, including infertility, pregnancy loss, complicated births, peripartum and postpartum distress.  

Dr. Gagos brings over 18 years of experience working in private practice and has a special interest in providing maternal mental health support to military service members and their families.  

She is an active member of the Postpartum Health Alliance of San Diego and Postpartum Support International.
